A bottle of sunscreen caused the evacuation of the Victoria airport Saturday.

At 10:33 a.m. airport officials tweeted: We are currently dealing with a security breach. Our departure lounge has had to be evacuated and all passengers will be re-screened. This will cause minor delays to a few flights. Please check w/ your airline or our website for latest flight information.

CTV News Vancouver Island is reporting passengers departing Saturday morning were forced to go through security twice after a prohibited item passed through the airport’s security checkpoint.

Airport spokesman Rod Hunchak told CTV News the security breach was caused by an aerosol can that was identified during the security screening process, but couldn’t be located before the passenger it belonged to had retrieved their bag.

The passenger with the offending sunscreen had already boarded the West Jet flight.

After evacuating the departure area, airport staff determined who the can belonged to and officials retrieved the item.

Four flights were delayed by the situation.
